A few months ago, on my way to the dentist in Hannam dong, I saw some nice gum boots for W10 000 (R60). And they would have fit my big size 9 feet. But did I buy them right there and then? Of course not! Do I ever? No! I always look around for cheaper options. So today I wanted to buy a pair, and some W10 000 sunglasses. When I finally got to Hannam Station (after sitting on a bus for half an hour and a subway for just as long), the shop appeared to have converted into a coffee shop. Fail number 1.
So I got on a bus to Itaewon.
I got a corduroy jacket for W10 000 and a kind of classy coat for W30 000. I thought I had gotten a good deal. Then I passed other shops that sold better looking coats for the same price! Fail number 2.
2 years ago I entered a 'big size' shop, only to find the shoes were in the W100 000 to W600 000 price range. I left and never returned to any shop in Itaewon. Until tonight. I decided I'd ask the sales assistant if they really meant for all the shoes to be on a 50% or 80% (and later i found out that the shoes downstairs are being sold at a 90% discount) mark down. Indeed it really meant that I would be paying only 20% for most of the shoes. And they fit! Amazing! I bought 2 pairs. Only because I was under the impression that I didn't have my bank card with me. After I bought 2 pairs of shoes and went up the steep, steep stairs. I saw some nice socks being sold by the roadside, and the lady insisted that i check my backpack to see if I don't have more cash so I can buy some socks. And there was a few W10 000 notes in my bag. And there was my bank card. Fail number 3.
On my way home, I bought a bottle of Coke. I spent a good half hour trying to open the damn thing. So there I sat on the subway, tired and thirsty, with painful hands. Only once I got out the subway station where a bus was waiting for me, did I manage to pry the thing open. Fail number 4.
What a night!
