I used to love reading books. I used to love reading Enid Blyton. I read The Famous 5 every single day, the entire series over and over again. One day in grade 6 (back then we called it standard 4) my Advanced English teacher told me I should start reading more advanced books. So I picked the one with the prettiest cover. Stephen King's Tommy Knockers. What a mistake!
From then on I rarely read at all. Nothing at all. I have since then enjoyed one other author: Dick Francis. His books always involves horses and sometimes murder. Other authors I have read and enjoyed since then are John Francome and Laura Hillenbrand. Yes, the books all involve horses. I guess you could say I have a thing for horses. But hey, at least I'm reading again. I went to What the Book in Itaewon recently and bought a few cheap back issue magazines, including The Horse Whisperer, by Nicholas Evans. When I saw this movie with my sister, I had absolutely loved it! So far, I enjoy the book too.
Don't tell a child she must read more advanced books. She will progress when she's good and ready to.
